A cheesy, silly movie. It was cute and whimsical, but also a bit stilted and un-christmas-y. Lacey Chabert delivers a subtle and earnest performance to contrast and balance Dustin Milligan's happy himbo with a heart. But there were no spark (or even a twinkle) between them. Not the best NCU* film. I liked Joe Lo Truglio as the deputy, though. Funny!

Just scratching the surface, but it's still a lovely time because we get 100 minutes of music by John Williams.

Ke Huy Quan's happiness is so infectious. So is Steven Spielberg's love and admiration for the maestro.

Buy why was Chris Martin from Coldplay in this? I don't mind, it just felt out of place.

I wish the documentary could have spent more time on analyzing the music from technical and theoretical point of view. I recommend The Soundtrack Show podcast by David W. Collins for anyone seeking a more in depth exploration of Williams' work and inspirations. There's even an entire episode about Korngold.

Oh no! What happened? This is a mess. Not even Gale Weathers' failed Bettie Page bangs can distract from that.

Somewhere under this rubbish there's a perceptive critique of the systematic exploitation of young women in the entertainment industry. Knowing what we now know of a certain predator with a producing credit on this very movie, it is unfortunate that the message was lost.

Dewey's still great, though.

Not as genre redefining as the first one, but it still has lots to say. A true crime satire. If this was made today, Gale Weathers would be a podcaster.

Also: The opening sequence has to be the worst cinema crowd ever. I would've kick every single person in that theater out.

Also-also: Randy's film class clearly needs to watch Paddington 2.

Still holds up! It is clearly a 90s movie, but it doesn't feel dated.

Rose McGowan is great. Matthew Lillard set the bar sky high for the rest of the franchise. And David Arquette's lovable Deputy Dewey is the heart and sole of the film.

This movie is so funny that every time I watch it, I notice things that I never knew were there before… birds singing, dew glistening on a newly formed leaf, stoplights.

I thought this was gonna be a campy, horny B-movie, but it was actually pretty good. And a bit campy. And horny.

Great score by Henry Mancini!

Duane Berry smooching with Picard – I didn't have that on my bingo card.

Frank Finlay's last line was so funny!

The zero gravity soot particle effect in the burned out space shuttle was absolutely chef kiss.

Convoluted, but enjoyable – if you liked the first one.

Catherine O'Hara is great, as usual. Her performance as Delia got some of the biggest laughs at the screening I attended, and rightfully so.

Winona Ryder brought Lydia back to life expertly. She's exactly how I'd imagined her to be today.

And Jenna Ortega's Astrid is a perfect addition to this universe.

Then there's Michael Keaton. Always good, also here. But – and I don't mean to be ageist – he's too old. The 'juice is supposed to be the exuberant, cartoonish, mischievous and devilishly energetic ghost with the most. That ain't Keaton anymore.

There's also several sub-plots that goes nowhere. They were funny in and of themself – they could have been great as shorts, as bonus features on the bluray – but add nothing to the overall film.

This makes the movie a bit boring and disjointed at times. It only kept my interest because of nostalgia for the first film.

But any complaints I had went right out the window when we came to the climax. So good! So funny! I loved every minute of that finale!

Oh, those facehugger's were terrifing!

It's nice to see an Alien film that actually feels like an Alien film again. It might not be a new classic (not by a long shot), but it easily holds up against the previous three films.

The cast was alright. I liked the dad-joke loving Andy (David Jonsson), his sister Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and their relationship. The rest of them didn't have any notable character developement, which made them a bit boring and flat.

The absolute worst part of the film comes in the form of a CGI monstrosity. No, I am not talking about an alien, but a character deeeeeeep in the uncanny valley. Could we PLEASE stop doing this? It has never worked! If I gave out a rating, I would deduct a whole star just for that off-putting CGI face.

Charming and enjoyable. I had low expectation going in, thinking this would be just a cheap and silly romantic comedy. Instead I found a dark comedy with two leads with chemistry through the roof.
